Website URLs

Best Practice for website URLs, including resource and content landing pages, should ideally contain these factors:

  • Always check/edit your URL in Kentico by following the example to the right
  • Make sure the URL has a logical, or standard structure – starting with www.smithers.com/  category/subcategory/specific page
  • Make sure you URL has a relevant primary keyword(s)
  • Keep it as short and simple as possible
  • Use hyphens to separate words
  • Remove stop words (i.e. a, the, and, or, but, an, of, etc.)
  • Use canonical tags if a page has more than one URL

Find the page with the URL you want to adjust/change on the left menu page tree and click on “Properties” located on the right tab at the top of the screen.

Select “Page Alias” from the drop-down menu under “Properties”.

Enter/change the specific page URL, using the relevant primary keyword(s) you’ve selected and using hyphens to separate words and Click the green “Save” button to complete.
