Clamps covered by MIL-DTL-85052 are designed for use in high-temperature, highly corrosive military service environments. Clamp cushions are subjected to a range of laboratory tests, including compression set, flammability, titanium compatibility. Clamp assemblies are subjected to diametral retention, vibration and transmissibility, ozone resistance, and thermal shock testing, as well as manual examination.

Other testing includes clamp band hardness, tensile and elongation of cushions, and ozone resistance.
