Security Document Testing
Smithers Pira tests the security and tamper evident features on ID cards, cheques, driving licences, travel cards and other secure documents. Security features tested range from the simplest barcodes or magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) lines on cheques to the more sophisticated printing of UV, IR and thermochromic inks, and photochromic dyes. They also include optically variable devises (OVD) and hot printed foils which have to withstand the rigors of everyday customer handling.
The durability of secure documents to manual handling and a variety of environmental hazards can be evaluated. A wide range of physical and climatic tests are available at Smithers Pira.
Smithers Pira also carries out adversarial and challenge testing on secure documents including the resistance to tampering and counterfeiting.
