Methodology

The research for the project will comprise six distinct stages:

Stage 1 – subscriber input

Smithers Pira will gather input from all subscribers to fully understand the requirements of the project and to amend the market segmentation and scope if necessary. All subscriber input and the names of the subscribers will be kept confidential. A simple Input Form will capture this important feedback. If required, Smithers Pira consultants will discuss these requirements in depth.

Stage 2 – desk research

This stage will involve collecting and collating existing data Smithers Pira and other sources have published on adhesives and flexible packaging markets. Key sources will include our internal print market database, as well as past research into flexible packaging and adhesives markets, covered in a number of separate projects.

Stage 3 – primary research

In order to better understand the market, product segments, customer segments and supply segments in printed flexible packaging, Smithers Pira will survey 100 producers and users of adhesives and flexible packaging, with these interviews conducted by experienced materials/packaging researchers.

Stage 4 – in-depth expert interviews

Smithers Pira will conduct a series of expert interviews with senior personnel – mainly suppliers of raw materials and adhesive products, leading flexible packaging converters and packaging users.

Stage 5 – Delphi technique

All of the relevant secondary and primary information generated in the first three stages will be re-assessed using the Delphi1 research technique. Smithers Pira’s forecasting unit, RADAR (Research, Analysis, Development and Review), consisting of print and packaging experts, will moderate the research findings to ensure the highest possible degree of accuracy.

Stage 6 – final analysis

Using information collated from the first five stages, Smithers Pira will provide a final written report, which will include the following:

  • Introduction outlining our approach and methodology
  • Overview of the adhesives and flexible packaging industries
  • Summary of key drivers & trends in flexible packaging adhesive markets
  • Technological developments in flexible packaging adhesives
  • Analysis of the impact of food safety regulations on flexible packaging adhesive applications
  • Flexible packaging adhesive markets (by product, process, geography)
  • Review of supply markets for flexible packaging adhesives

We will also provide an accompanying Excel workbook including key data shown in the report in more detail.
