The Plastics & Paper in Contact with Foodstuffs pre-conference workshops have always been a major hit with industry leaders from across the food contact supply chain, whereby last year's workshops were completely sold out.

Following the success of previous years, Europe's leading food contact forum Plastics and Paper in Contact with Foodstuffs 2014 will once again host two thought-provoking, expert led pre-conference workshops: 

Workshop 1 (10:00 – 13:00): FACET exposure tool – Enhanced capabilities users

The FACET Industry Group (FIG) have continued to support enhancements to the FACET tool. The version to be released 4th quarter 2015 includes these plus additional features requested by EFSA/JRC. This will be the last release until major changes are made, such as incorporation of new dietary surveys using FOODEX2 coding.

In response to user requests, outputs from the migration model are now viewable, to enable better understanding of any exposure estimates. 

Building upon the event last year, this workshop will give hands-on experience of running the tool and its enhanced capabilities. NOTE attendee’s need to download the software ahead of the workshop and run an exposure estimate using an example provided and also an example of interest to them, such as a substance, NIAS, new packaging structure etc.

Workshop 2 (14:00 – 17:00): New Rules for Assessing Compliance with Migration Limits Under the Plastics Regulation and the Impact on Global Regulatory Compliance Activities

As of January 1, 2016, compliance testing supporting DoCs (Declaration of Compliance) for food contact plastic materials and articles falling under the scope of the EU Plastics Regulation must be conducted in accordance with the requirements for food simulants and testing conditions provided in Annex V of the Plastics Regulation, as amended.  The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has released draft technical guidelines for compliance testing that contain highly detailed and complex guidance for manufacturers, with recommended changes for the Plastics Regulation itself.  These changes present an on-going challenge for companies that wish to market food contact plastic materials in the European Union, but also significantly impact manufacturers’ global regulatory compliance activities.  This workshop will review the most important changes in compliance testing in the EU, then discuss the impact of these changes on global regulatory compliance, with a particular focus on the US, China, and MERCOSUR.
