Package & Distribution Testing for the FMCG Sector

Using distribution testing (package testing) to enable packaging reduction for consumer packaged goods without increasing supply chain losses

21 Sep 2011
Online

FREE TO ATTEND!

When:

Wednesday, September 21, 2011
10:00 am Boston / 15:00 London

In this webinar speakers will review the use of laboratory based distribution testing as a tool to optimise packaging. The common test standards will be reviewed as an introduction before considering how best-practice approaches to performance testing can deliver further value and better meet the needs of the FMCG sector.

Various case studies will be used to highlight light weighting opportunities and the latest approaches to delivering further material and cost reduction, including weight reduction in beverage containers, weight reduction in plastic bottles and advanced testing in support of development of light weight composite milk packs

Background:

  • The FMCG sector is a particular focus for packaging reduction because of cost competition and because of retailer and consumer expectations for environmentally sound packaging solutions
  • Retail cost reduction and efficiency drivers (eg sourcing from the Far East and shelf-ready packaging) can place additional demands on packaging performance and so add greater challenges to packaging reduction
  • However, product losses and damage resulting from inadequate packaging can have a far greater financial and environmental cost
  • The challenge is to optimise packaging not only for its retail function but to ensure product protection through distribution to store shelf.

Agenda:

  • Benefits of distribution testing (package testing)
  • What's involved
  • Overview and application of the main test standards
  • Shortfalls of using the main test standards for the FMCG sector
  • Concept and benefits of focused test methods
  • Field auditing - data recorders
  • Field auditing - observation
  • Latest approaches to testing
