This is an exciting opportunity within Smithers Pira’s Distribution Testing team in Leatherhead, reporting to the Laboratory Manager, to take on a key role in project management and scientific oversight of laboratory testing projects.  The lab is a fast moving, dynamic and rapidly growing area of the Smithers UK business.

The laboratory is concerned with establishing the fitness of products with respect to the physical rigours of shipment and distribution: vibration, shock, impact, compression and climatic conditioning. Test samples range from small parcels to complete pallets of product. Clients are globally known brands in the medical, consumer, automotive and industrial sectors. For clients the project outcomes contribute towards and direct critical new product launch decisions, or support regulatory submissions, or providing key decision making input to re-engineering initiatives.

Key elements of the role include managing client enquiries and developing proposals including evaluating technical and commercial content, setting-up instrumentation and equipment, undertaking and managing data collection and testing activities, providing high level of scientific rigour in support of projects being undertaken by other team members, reporting project outcomes. Direct contact with clients is a critical component of the role.

As a Physics graduate you’ll bring a high level of expertise and professionalism in all aspects of technical coordination and project management. You’ll have impressive presentation, report-writing, planning, co-ordinating and problem-solving skills, along with a good general knowledge of quality systems and strong experience of instrumentation/ equipment use.
