Smithers Pira is Europe's leading independent specialist testing, consultancy and information services organisation for the packaging supply chain.

This is an opportunity within Smithers Pira's Distribution Testing laboratory team, to take on a key business support/administrative role, acting for the team of 16 technical staff. The lab is a fast moving, dynamic and rapidly growing area of the Smithers UK business.

The laboratory is concerned with establishing the fitness of products with respect to the physical rigours of shipment and distribution: vibration, shock, impact, compression and climatic conditioning. Clients are globally known brands in the medical, consumer, automotive and industrial sectors. For clients the project outcomes contribute towards critical new product launch decisions, or support regulatory submissions, or provide key decision making input to re-engineering initiatives. This role is pivotal to the smooth and successful running of the day to day operations of this team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage logging of new enquiries/opportunity on customer database
2. Manage credit checking where required to ensure viability of clients
3. Raise new project numbers in accounts system and managing related project entries in the system
4. Manage invoicing and closing of projects
5. Oversee purchase orders for purchase of sundry and equipment items required for the operation
6. Provide periodic administrative support for all operations team members including bridging between clients and the finance team
7. Act as North Building receptionist and manage courier deliveries to the building
8. Support client visits through managing visitor security passes and access, provision of client lunches and other client support activities (taxis, travel etc.).

As a fundamental part of the team, you will have strong coordination skills, have the ability to multitask and be conscientious in your work. The role will require both internal and external communication and therefore confidence and a professional attitude are essential. IT literate and previous experience in using accounts systems and/or contact database systems is essential.
